Frequently Asked Question
What is a smart card PIN?
Last Updated 2 years ago
A smart card PIN is a verification code that a smart card user has to provide in order to confirm their authorization for using the card.
A smart card PIN is always a 4-digit code, selected by the taxpayers when requesting each smart card.
Smart card users will be requested to provide the valid PIN when:
- Establishing communication between the E-SDC and a smart card secure element at the beginning of the operation (if a valid PIN is entered, the user does not need to re-enter it until a smart card is removed from the card reader)
- Authenticating to a Tax Authority public service; for example, logging into the Taxpayer Administration Portal or the Developer Portal
- Sometimes when issuing a fiscal invoice (depending on the POS setup)
Note: you can choose a PIN during the request of a smart card. If not, system will generate a random PIN instead, which you will receive via email, upon approval.
