Does the Smart Card Reader needs to go through certification? Does the Card Reader require SDC integration, or is there a uniform protocol for communication?

Smart Card Readers are not certified and do not need to have any special features.
Their use (external or integrated) depends on the E-SDC implementation.
We use both a smart card slot in the SDC and an external smart card reader.
The communication protocol between an E-SDC and a smart card is standardized.
